Muddy Boots Hiking Club: Tellico Village Trails

by | Jan 29, 2025 | 0 comments

Tellico Village is where community and nature meet in the rolling hills of East Tennessee. Among all the activities that bring our residents together, the Muddy Boots Hiking Club is a top pick. This is not about serious hiking or mountain climbing – it’s about good friends, fresh air and Tennessee one step at a time.

Casual Hikers

The Muddy Boots Hiking Club is open to all Tellico Village residents, whether you’re an experienced hiker or looking for a nice walk in the woods. The group meets once a month for an easy to moderate hike, about 3 to 5 miles no fancy gear is required – just good shoes and a sense of adventure.

Hikes will be in:

  • The Smoky Mountains
  • The Cumberland Plateau
  • The Cherokee National Forest
  • State parks and local trails

Every hike is fun, not hard. It’s all about getting outside, stretching your legs, and enjoying the view.

When & Where to Meet

Muddy Boots hikes are on the 2nd Monday of each month (the 3rd Monday if the weather doesn’t cooperate). The group meets at the Chota Center parking lot (across from the Marathon gas station) to carpool to the trailhead.

Meeting times vary by season:

  • March to November: 8:00 a.m.
  • December to February: 9:00 a.m.

No membership, no sign-ups, no fees. Just show up and be ready to hike!

Stay in the Know

Want to get notifications about upcoming hikes? Sign up for email updates through Tellico Life:

  1. Log in to Tellico Life.
  2. Go to “My Profile” → “My Features” → “E-Lists.”
  3. Select the Muddy Boots email list.

Then, you’ll get all the details for each month’s hike in your email.

Be a Hike Leader

The club is always looking for volunteers to lead hikes. If you have a favorite trail you’d like to lead, sign up to be a leader. Don’t worry – you won’t be thrown in without a lifeline. Leaders get access to trail descriptions, maps and directions and can pre-hike the route.

What to Bring

You don’t need fancy gear to go on a Muddy Boots hike, but a few of these will make it better:

  • Good walking shoes or hiking boots
  • Water bottle
  • Light snacks
  • Hiking poles (helpful for balance but not required)
  • Emergency contact info (just in case)

While the hikes are easy to moderate, some trails may have uneven terrain, tree roots or small inclines. Being prepared makes the walk more enjoyable for everyone.

It’s More Than Just a Walk in the Woods

At its core, the Muddy Boots Hiking Club is about community. It’s a chance to meet new people, explore East Tennessee, and stay active in a fun way. Whether you’re new to Tellico Village or have lived here for years, the trails are always open, and so is this group.

So come out and get outside, breathe some fresh air, and hang with fellow nature nuts. See you on the trail!
