Peach State Dragon Boat International Festival: Tellico Heat’s Next Splash

by | Sep 26, 2025 | 0 comments

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, dragon boats will streak across Lake Peachtree at Drake Field in Peachtree City, GA, as the Peach State Dragon Boat Academy (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) hosts the Peachtree City Dragon Boat Race & International Festival—a high-energy day of racing, culture, food, and community.

Why this race matters

This is a small-boat fundraiser festival. Net proceeds help the Academy expand year-round paddling activities by purchasing boats and equipment, as well as supporting programs for individuals aged 55 and above, cancer survivors, para-athletes, and community/corporate wellness teams. It’s racing with a purpose.

Tellico Heat is back—times two.

Tellico Heat Dragon (Boat) Club is “off and running again,” bringing two teams to compete in the 10-person boat format. Even better, there’s finally a 50+ age category—we’re entering both Mixed and Women divisions. (We’ve been known to chant at the youngsters: “Tellico Heat, who are we? We are your grandparents!” 😄)

The race card: 200m heats + a spicy knockout

Festival racing centers on fast-paced 200-meter sprints—pure adrenaline and synchronicity. Visit Peachtree City
And this year we’re trying something new: the 100-meter Knock-Out. Six boats launch; the bottom two are eliminated each round until three remain, then it’s a final dash for bragging rights. We’re in it for the thrill and the laughs—no category limits here—so expect big grins, big drums, and bigger heart. Visit Peachtree City

Community on and off the water

Beyond the lanes, the festival features international performances, vendors, and food trucks, along with meaningful moments like the Cancer Flower Ceremony. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating teamwork, resilience, and the vibrant cultures that make our paddling community unique. Visit Peachtree City

Come cheer (loudly!)

Mark your calendar for September 27, 2025 (8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and join us at Drake Field. Whether we’re sprinting in the 200s or tangling in the 100-meter Knock-Out, you’ll hear us before you see us, Tellico Heat drums pounding and that grandparents’ chant echoing across Lake Peachtree. Paddles up!
