Need something to look forward to as the year winds down? The Tellico Community Playhouse has got you covered. They’re producing Moonlight and Magnolias, and if you’ve never seen it, the show is just plain wild from start to finish in a good way. This production offers a unique experience at the Moonlight and Magnolias Tellico Community Playhouse.
What’s it About?
It’s 1939, and Gone with the Wind is being made. Producer David O. Selznick decides the script is a mess, so he brings in screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming… and then promptly locks the three of them in his office until they can fix the movie. They’ve got five days, a bunch of bananas and peanuts, and not much else. Moonlight and Magnolias Tellico Community Playhouse truly captures this chaos.
It’s fast, it’s silly, and half the time you’ll think the characters might actually lose their minds. But honestly, that’s what makes it fun to watch. Performances at the Moonlight and Magnolias Tellico Community Playhouse make it even better.
Who’s in It?
Only four actors are in this show, which means everything is up close and personal, no hiding behind a big cast. Here’s who’s on stage:
-
Gordon Michaels as David O. Selznick
-
Chuck Hawes as Ben Hecht.
-
Bill Paxson as Victor Fleming
-
Denise Steele as Miss Poppenghul
It’s a small cast, but that’s a big part of why the show works. The comedy hits harder when everyone is trapped in one room together, just like what you can expect from the Moonlight and Magnolias Tellico production.

Why You’ll Like It
Truthfully? It’s just a good time. The show doesn’t take itself seriously, and neither should you. You get a little history, a lot of humor, and precisely the kind of community theatre energy that makes Tellico Village such a great place to live. Moonlight and Magnolias Tellico Community Playhouse embodies this spirit.
