Tellico Village How It Got It’s Start
Tellico Village’s start was intertwined with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and its ambitious projects.
1930s-1940s: TVA’s vision for Tellico Reservoir and its surrounding area.
1944: Completion of Fort Loudon Dam, a precursor to Tellico Reservoir.
The late 1950s: Planning for Tellico Dam commences.
Late 1950s- early 1960s: Public announcement of Tellico Dam, marking a pivotal moment.
The mid-1960s saw land acquisition around the Little Tennessee River, setting the stage for Tellico Village.
Development & Challenges
The 1970s and 1980s were crucial in shaping Tellico Village.
1979: Congressional approval for the Tellico project.
1982: Formation of the Tellico Reservoir Development Agency (TRDA).
1983: Proposal from Cooper Communities, Inc. for the entire site development.
Cooper Developments marked a significant step in the community’s formation when TVA sold and leased land to them.
Tellico Village’s Evolution
Tellico Village’s growth took a lot of work.
1985: A celebratory ribbon-cutting marks the official beginning of Tellico Village.
1986: Infrastructure construction and the first home site sale.
2017: Tellico Village celebrates its 30th anniversary.
